
Environmental sustainability Trainers
Reports to: Head of Innovation Sote Hub
Location: Mombasa, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Lamu and Tana River
Background
The Go Blue project is co-financed by the European Union and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with Sote Hub.
The overall objective of the EU Action is to contribute to coastal economic development in an inclusive, integrated, participatory and sustainable manner. The specific objective of the GIZ engagement is to strengthen inclusive and sustainable blue economy value chains ( Aquaculture, Fishing and Fish Handling, Hospitality and Tourism, Transport and Logistics i.e maritime transport, security, shipping, ports and related services, Conservation (waste disposal management and mangrove conservation), Vessel Repair and Maintenance and Desalination i.e fresh water generation) through skills development and matching, and value chain development.
Job Summary
The environmental sustainability trainer is responsible for designing, developing and implementing training programs that help MSMEs transition to more environmentally sustainable practices. The coordinator will work closely with businesses to identify areas where they can enhance their positive environmental impact and will develop training programs that provide them with the knowledge and tools necessary to implement these changes.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with businesses to identify areas where they can improve their environmental sustainability practices
Develop training programs that address the specific needs of each business, such as waste reduction, energy conservation, water conservation and sustainable procurement
Plan and coordinate training sessions, including scheduling, venue selection, and logistical arrangements
Deliver training sessions to businesses in both group and one-on-one settings
Create training materials, including manuals, presentations, and handouts
Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make adjustments as necessary to ensure that they meet the needs of businesses
Develop and maintain relationships with businesses and other stakeholders involved in sustainability initiatives
Monitor trends and emerging best practices in green business training and incorporate them into training programs as appropriate
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, sustainability, or a related field
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in sustainability practices and initiatives, particularly in the context of business operations
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with MSMEs, stakeholders and colleagues
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
Experience in developing and delivering training programs, including the creation of training materials and evaluation of program effectiveness
Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with relevant software and technology, including Microsoft Office and virtual training platforms
A professional residing or working in either of the six counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Tana River and Lamu added advantage.
